A Burke Lake Park Maternity Session | Baby Karsten
Summer is a season full of activity. Arriving at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax, Virginia, on this June evening exemplified this notion. Families were out and about boating, fishing, and walking the trails. All enjoying a beautiful day outside.
Brittany had reached out wanting to document her family just before her sweet baby girl arrived later this Summer. She picked Burke Lake because they loved to spend time there and knew they'd watch their girls play there as they grew up - be still my sentimental heart!
We started down by the water where a couple of geese made their cameo appearance. Burke Lake offers a beautiful white pebble and sand ‘beach’ along the lake’s edge. For photos, this means you’ll have the lake as your backdrop and a good source of glow from the sun behind you and a reflector from the sand in front of you.
Our session was relaxed as we moved around the park. Because there were so many families around, we had to find quieter spaces off the beaten path. This led to finding a little alcove off the lake where the sun was streaming in through the leaves.
While we talked and snapped, Brittany shared that this baby girl’s name was Summer – a perfect fit since she’d likely make her debut in July.
An additional feature that I appreciate about Burke Lake Park is the open fields at the entrance. This open grassy area is perfect for just before sunset, as the sun sets behind the outlining row of trees. We lucked out and had a perfect golden glow for those last minute family photos at Burke Lake Park.
