Aldie Mill has been a wonderful spot for family photos over the year. I've found that this location looks great in any season, even for winter photos!
The best part is the amount of variety you can capture with a very small footprint. There's the mill, of course, with painted blue stairs, a brick terrace, and the actual mill on the back of the building. Plus, neighboring properties have a white shed with a rustic wooden door and blooming gardens that make for lovely details in the background.
Have concerns about mobility? Parking is located right across from where we take photos and the mill's footprint is small. Minimal walking is required to get maximum variety.

When to Take Photos at Aldie Mill in Loudoun County
Aldie Mill takes the cake with session timing. I've personally enjoyed taking photos there in the morning and in the evenings. The sun stays behind the building throughout the day, making the entire property great for photos. If you've cruised through the post about Silver Lake, then you know I prefer to keep the sun behind you or to the side of you for the best lighting.
If you're considering Aldie Mill, then the best times to start your session are either ~2 hours after sunrise or two hours before sunset. Mid-day can be suitable for photos, especially if that works best for littles in your family, but I would always suggest the morning or evening timeframe.
