University of Virginia Surprise Proposal and Engagement Session in Charlottesville, VA

Rachel and Matt are ENGAGED! Matt surprised his beautiful fiance, Rachel, with a proposal on the steps of the historic Rotunda at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.

These two have been together for six years and began their relationship as students at UVA. Finding their paths crossing both in an out of class, these two eventually found their way together.

Matt worked especially hard to make this proposal incredibly special. He began planning weeks in advance, like most do when popping a very big question! He found the perfect ring - something unique with a vintage twist, managed to coordinate outfits between the two of them, and planned a weekend getaway to Charlottesville to visit their alma matter. Oh, and hire a photographer to make sure this epic event was captured!

As this special Saturday morning approached, Matt and I coordinated final details and I made my way down to Charlottesville. Walking the grounds of UVA's campus was spectacular and this photographer's dream. The bright white columns and simple landscaping provided so much in the way of photo opportunities.

I parked myself off to the side of the lawn with views of the rotunda. Nervously I sat waiting for Matt and Rachel to make their way to the lawn. As I held my camera with massive zoom lens in my lap, I thought there was no way I could be any more conspicuous!

Matt and Rachel sat on the rotunda stairs enjoying breakfast while chatting. Feeling butterflies of my own, I could only imagine how Matt was feeling. Finally the moment we were both waiting for arrived - Matt asked Rachel to take a photo on the stairs but she had to turn around for the photo. I knew this was Matt's way of getting on one knee to propose.

Rachel was totally surprised!! I continued taking photos of their special moment from a distance but eventually made my way over. Matt introduced me to Rachel and their excitement was contagious!

This surprise proposal turned into an engagement session -- talk about the best most genuine reactions! We walked the grounds taking advantage of all the very photogenic spots on campus. They shared their love story and moments they experienced in the different spots where we took photos. How special to go from dating in undergrad to walking the grounds as an engaged couple!

This morning together was so incredibly wonderful to be a part of! Congratulations to Rachel and Matt as they continue their love story as an engaged couple!
